The questions worth asking any personalized book, and our answer to each.
Plenty of sites will put someone’s face in a book. They differ on who the book is written for, whether the face looks like the person, what you see before you pay, what shipping adds, and what happens to the photo afterwards.
We don’t review or rank anyone else here. Ask every site you’re considering the same questions. The last column is how Hello Sorry answers today.
| What to compare | Ask any of them | Hello Sorry |
|---|---|---|
| Who it’s for | Who is the book written for, and who can it be about? | Recipients are 18 or older. |
| Likeness | Will the drawing look like them, and do you see it before you pay? | Yes. Their face is the one thing we get right on purpose. You meet their character before you pay. Doesn’t look like them? Redraw it yourself, free, up to six a day, before you order. |
| Preview | Can you see the whole book before it prints? | No. You meet their character before you pay. The book is written and drawn after you order. |
| What goes in it | Is it a fixed story with their name swapped in, or written from what you tell them? | You tell us about them in your own words. The slop machine does the rest. |
| Price | What does each format cost? Is there a subscription? | Digital is $19.99. Softcover is $29.99. Hardcover is $39.99. Printed books include the digital copy. Shipping is quoted at checkout for wherever it is going. No subscriptions. |
| Shipping | Where do they ship, and is shipping added at the end? | We print and ship to more than 170 countries; the checkout lists every one. Shipping is quoted there, before you pay. The digital edition works anywhere. |
| Timing | How long do the digital and the printed book take? | You upload a photo and meet their character before you pay; redraws are free, up to six a day. Then you order, we write and draw the book, and your digital copy arrives by email when ready. For print we make and review the book first, then print, bind and ship; checkout shows shipping estimates for your address. |
| The photo | Who gets the photo, what is it used for, and when is it deleted? | It goes to Anthropic for the photo check and to OpenAI to draw their character, both before you pay, then into making the book. Never sold, shared with advertisers, posted publicly or used to train AI models. Photo deleted 30 days after delivery. The Privacy Policy and Photo & AI Policy carry the whole rule. |
| Their consent | Do they ask whether the person in it would be fine with this? | Yes. When you add their photo, you confirm they’re an adult who’d be fine starring in a gag book. No coworkers you barely know, no celebrities, no exes. Especially no exes. |
| Language | What language is the book written in? | The books are written in English, whatever language you’re reading this in. The site comes in other languages too; the globe at the top of every page lists them. |
| Refunds | What happens if the book arrives damaged or isn’t right? | Arrived damaged? Send us a photo of the damage within 30 days of delivery and we reprint it, free. A printing or quality problem with a printed book? Tell us within 30 days of delivery and we reprint it or refund you. A quality problem with a digital edition? Tell us within 30 days of purchase and we fix it or refund you. What is not covered: Changing your mind, or the recipient not finding it funny. Refunds are for quality and printing problems. |
Somebody you love deserves this. We’re so sorry.
One photo. One real book. A lifetime of them bringing it up at dinner.
